Is your water softener continuously beeping? There could be a few possibilities of why this may be happening. Let’s go through these steps together.
First, you’ll need to remove the top cover of the water softener. If you already know how, great! If this is your first time, click here for directions for Removing the Top Cover.
Next, you’ll need to look at the control board and try a few things. The control board is connected to the back of the faceplate/top cover of the water softener. Don’t worry, you don’t need to be a mechanic! It’s simpler than you may be thinking.
1. Identify the red Wire Harness connected to your control board. It’s the red plastic piece with 5 colored wires connected to it. Detach that red plastic piece from the control board.
Did the beeping stop?
- YES – We recommend replacing the wire harness. Replacement parts can be purchased here.
- NO – Proceed to next step.
2. Now you’re going to disconnect the motor. Follow the red and black wires leading from the control board to the motor and separate the white plastic connectors.

- NO – Proceed to next step.
3. Lastly, you’re going to check if the prongs on the control board are working correctly. Separate the control board from the faceplate. You can do this by prying the gray plastic tabs away from the corners of the board.
Once removed, flip over and push each of the colored prongs corresponding to the softeners buttons on the front of the control board. Try wiggling the prongs and pressing them at various angles to ensure none are stuck.

- YES – Great! You’ve just fixed your issue!
- NO – We recommend replacing the control board and power supply. Replacement parts can be purchased here.
