Some local plumbing codes may not allow the use of a flexible drain hose. Keep reading to learn how to install a rigid drain line instead. Let's get started!
Before You Start
- You'll need to purchase a compression fitting (1/4" NPT x 1/2" outside diameter tube) and 1/2" O.D. tubing from your local hardware store, along with any other PVC pipe or fittings needed to run the drain route. More information on this can be found in your owner's manual.

1. Go ahead and locate the drain adaptor elbow on the back right-hand side of your system's valve head (pictured below). You can leave this on the unit for the following steps, or remove it for convenience. If you want to remove it, pull the black clip up and out and wiggle the adaptor elbow out.
2. You'll need to cut the hose barbs off the end of your drain adaptor elbow.
3. The remaining threads on the drain adaptor elbow are standard 1/4" NPT male threads. We recommend applying thread sealing tape to the threads to help ensure a reliable seal. Attach your 1/4" female threaded compression fitting to the drain adaptor.
4. Add any 1/2" PVC pipe or fittings as needed to reach the nearby drain. Your rigid drain line should look similar to this when completed:
5. Lastly, to ensure the softener can drain freely, you'll need to have an air gap of 1 ½ inches between the end of the line and wherever you're draining it to (drain, laundry tub or standpipe).
